~Summary~

Throughout the semester I learned a lot from this class. Coming into this class I had a small amount of knowledge about art programs such as Corel Painter and Adobe Photoshop. But thanks to Ms. Thompson I learned how to use it with ease. This class allowed me as an average artist to really express myself through art digitally. I learned that even though it is fun to draw on paper and other materials, I have a lot more fun on a digital template. I say this because it gives you limitless possibilities so you can express what you want to.

Pop Art

This was overall, the most fun unit to work with. We started with a PowerPoint that allowed us to learn of similar artists that worked with pop art. Some of the artists that we learned of included Andy Warhol, Robert Rachenburg, Obey the Giant and Roy Lichstenstein. All of these artists are famously known for their use of pop art in various ways. One of the more popular artists was Obey the Giant. Known most widely for their work on the campaign posters and logos for President Obama.

~~For the first pop art image we changed it up and used Adobe Flash. Normally used for things
like stop motion animation, we used flash to easily outline and trace our faces. After we had
traced all of our features we then exported the image to Photoshop and worked from there. For
my image I decided to add a red, white and blue background just for fun. They were all
complementary, so I just thought why not? Overall I thought it turned out very nice
and I'm very proud of it.~~

~~On my second image I just changed the color of the photo. For my shirt I chose orange
just because I enjoy that color and I also chose blue as my background. I chose both of
these colors due to the fact that they are complementary to each other~~

Mythical Beast

The next unit focused more on Photoshop. our goal was to create a mythical beast or creature using different types of images that we found on Google. We used the idea of surrealism in both of our projects. We learned in a PowerPoint before we started about how our mind greatly affects what we see and how we interpret it.
~~For my mythical beast I wanted to do something completely random. After thinking for a while
I immediately thought about Dumbledore from Harry Potter. So I took my eye and added that to the body of the wizard. I used the red and green mango to make up the boy and make sure
that the eye blended with the rest. For the little mango I used that to act as the star on his
wand. I also used the little yellow mango to act as his crystal ball.~~

Color Wheel

This was a brief unit we actually did in direct relation to our landscape unit. For this we created a color wheel that both illustrated complementary colors and other types of tones and shades.

~~On my color wheel I originally messed up on the tones, tints and shades, but Ms. Thompson
corrected me and showed me how to do it correctly.(Correct tints, tones, and shades
are on the outside in green)~~

Landscape Unit

In our second unit we learned about landscapes. We first learned about Auto Van Gogh before we began our unit. We were taught about how his paintings were so unique and different from other artists at his time.
~~On my first landscape I tried to pick some complementary colors after we learned about them.
So for this image I wanted to use orange and purple. So for the mountains in the distance
I used purple and highlighted the ridges grey. In the distance I made the
sky orange to give the effect of a setting sun. I tried my best to obey the rule
of thirds like we had been taught. For the front I also decided to add a field of wheat
with what I would imagine is either a small pond or a fraction of a larger body of water.~~

~~In the second landscape we were asked to add figures projecting shadows. For this I
decided to add trees that weren't normal. With them I added shadows. I tried to make
it so it seemed like a setting sun.~~

~~On the third landscape image we had to use photoshop and use different images. For
my image I combined a radiant sunset with desert sands. I was originally going to
combine two completely similar types of images, but I later decided that these
two images somehow seemed complimentary to each other.~~

~~The last image of our landscape unit was an Auto Van Gogh of one of our
previous images. So I decided to choose my first image because it was my favorite.~~

Spacescapes

Our first unit focused on Spacescapes. In this unit we learned to experiment with various brushes and create incredible and original images of space. The real thing that I struggled with at first was having to create the element of randomness. I thought I knew how to just put random stars and planets on a piece of paper, but it turned out it was much more complicated than that. In this unit we learned how to use Corel Painter. At first it was somewhat difficult learning how to use a new program, but after we finished up with our Spacescapes it was no problem.

~~For my first image I tried to create an image that resembled something similar to what our natural space looks like, but not exactly like it.~~

~~For my second image I tried my best to use Orange, Red, and Green as best as I could. I chose these colors because they seemed like they were all very complementary to each other.~~

For our last set of pictures in the Spacescapes unit we were asked to use more features that were associated with Adobe Photoshop. For the first picture we were asked to include a picture of our face on our planet. On this particular image I struggled a little bit to understand Photoshop at first. But I eventually understood it well enough to complete the project.
~~On my planet with the image of my face on it I tried to make it as funky and strange as I possibly
could. I tried to make my face look similar to the creatures from "Avatar", but I wound up
making my face look green.~~

~~The last part of our Spacescape unit required us to wrap text in the rings of a planet. For my
planet I didn't know what I was going to do, but I was eating a mint at the time and
decided why not make it look like a mint with green and black.~~

Overall I would have to say that this was my favorite unit out of all of the units. It gave us the chance to ease into learning how to use Corel Painter and Adobe Photoshop. Along with this, it really let us express what we thought planets could look like.
